Last year, for the first time in ten years, an openair festival, tagged Sussex Love Music Hate Racism/dissertation dash, was organised in the summer term. On the day of the dissertation deadline more than 1000 students attended to celebrate multi-culturalism.
The concept of this event is basically to use music, poetry and comedy to promote multicultural diversity in the University of Sussex community.
The event is inspired by the iconic Rock Against Racism event of 1978 and attempts to tap into the talents of students by performing alongside musicians, comedians and so on from within and outside Brighton.
The aim of the event is to solidify people’s ideas of multiculturalism and diversity in a tangible sense, using music and poetry as a medium to bridge gaps between race relation policies and societal reality.
