Art For Climate Change Day

When - Sunday 24. January from 11:00am until 4:00 pm .
Where - Phoenix Gallery .
Organised by - Cavan Rouse.

The international climate change campaign 350.org (1) arrives in Brighton on Sunday 24 January. Artists with something to say about climate change are being invited to show their concern – and their work – at a specially convened free event at the Phoenix Gallery (2).  Brighton-based artist and climate campaigner Cavan Rouse (3) is taking over the Phoenix for the day to offer artists an opportunity to show work relevant to climate change. The Art For Climate Change Day exhibition has an unusual format – instead of hanging pictures on the wall, artists will be filmed showing their work and explaining the links to global warming. Painting, Photo and Sculpture are all invited. The film, to be made by the renowned cinematographer Anita  Makris (4) will be posted on YouTube, and on the website of 350.org – the international climate change campaign founded by the writer Bill McKibben. Alongside artists, there will be speakers, poets and musicians – and the public are invited to attend the event for free.  Cavan is a local artist who also works on climate change issues. He is an active member of 350.com.  “What makes 350.com unusual in the climate campaign is their focus on strong images. Brighton has such a wealth of artistic talent and environmental know-how, it is a perfect match,” he said. “I’m already getting plenty of interest from local artists, and I hope lots of people will visit the event on the day, to show their concern - and just to see what happens”.
