Across Sussex hospital Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments are being closed down as part of the Government's plans to create a 'regional health market', and replaced by 'Minor Injuries Units' or 'Urgent Care Centres'. The A&E department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton is to become one of regional A&E centres and will take major accident and emergency cases from across Sussex. At the same time a new Urgent Care is being built in Brighton to cope with more routine 'minor' accidents and emergencies, which will be run by a private company for profit.
